Dodgers World Series: LA Takes Game 1 Behind a Dominant Clayton Kershaw

The Dodgers and Rays kicked off Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas. Tampa Bay turned to their young ace in Tyler Glasnow while Los Angeles went with their veteran guy in Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw Baffles the Rays

Glasnow had a little bit of a rough time with the Dodgers, so it wasn’t quite the pitching matchup that we were expecting. But Clayton Kershaw was absolutely phenomenal in this one, going 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Kershaw struck out 8 Rays batters and now has 201 career postseason strikeouts

Offense Gets Going

Even with a sore shoulder, Cody Bellinger got the Dodgers on the board first. He took a Tyler Glasnow fastball to deep right-center to give them a 2-run lead in the 4th inning.

Mookie Betts had his fingerprints all over this game once again, including this solo shot off of Fleming in the 6th. It was Mookie’s first postseason homerun as a Dodger, and his second-best offensive play of the game. The baserunning that allowed him to sore the inning before was much more impressive.

Dodgers Bullpen Enters Shaky

After Clayton Kershaw left the game, the Dodgers bullpen took a little bit to get going. Dylan Floro came on in the 7th inning and gave up a couple of hits before being pulled. Victor Gonzalez came on and gave up a pair of hits before making this one in a million grab

Pedro Baez came on to pitch the 8th inning and got out of it without any action. The Dodgers went to Joe Kelly in the 9th inning, and he got through it without any traffic to lock down the 8-3 win.

Up Next for the World Series

The Rays and Dodgers will be right back at it on Wednesday night in Texas. Tampa Bay will throw Blake Snell in Game 2, but Los Angeles has yet to officially name their starter. Julio Urias is a potential option to get the ball as an opener in what could end up being a bullpen day.
