Since capturing the women’s bantamweight crown from the since-retired Ronda Rousey back in late 2015, former boxing champion Holly Holm has competed in four separate UFC title fights across two different weight classes.
And lost them all.
But that doesn’t mean “The Preacher’s Daughter” is going to roll over and call it a career, or simply compete for the same of competing. Instead, Holm (13-5) is hellbent on working her way back to yet another UFC title fight.
“My goal is to have the title,” Holm told MMA Junkie at the UFC Fight Island 4 media day. “I want to retire with the title. I’m truly a big believer in the fact that, if you’re not trying to fight for a title, what are you fighting for? If you’re not trying to be No. 1, what are you fighting for? That’s the difference between somebody who just wants a participation ribbon and a gold medal. I’m always going for gold.”
Holm, who turns 39 later this month, rebounded from her Amanda Nunes loss in summer 2019 by outpointing Raquel Pennington at UFC 246 back in January and will attempt to win back-to-back fights for the first time in nearly five years.
The means to that end is a five-round showdown opposite No. 6-ranked title contender Irene Aldana in the upcoming UFC Fight Island 4 main event, scheduled for this Sat. night (Oct. 3, 2020) on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
