Dodgers: Reliever Caleb Ferguson Leaves Game with Injury

[Editor’s note: This story has been updated]

In the 8th of Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over against the Padres in San Diego, left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson left the ballgame with an apparent injury. At first glance, it looked to involve his pitching arm, but there are no official reports at this time.

Ferguson, 24, was making his 21st appearance of the season. In 20 previous outings, 1 start, he’s posted a 2.95 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 18.1 innings pitches. Right-handed reliever Blake Treinen came on in relief of Ferguson with 1 out in the 8th inning.

After the game, Dave Roberts provided an update on Ferg.

The lefty had Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery in high school before being drafted. While Doc remains “hopeful” and was careful with his words in talking about Ferguson, there’s a chance that he may have pitched his last game for the team this season, which is purely speculative on my part.

In addition to being hopeful, Roberts would not say if the team would imminently add him to the injured list.
