Zverev on Coach Ferrer: He’s Unbelievably Well-Organized

World No.7 Alexander Zverev is thrilled to have legend David Ferrer in his corner in 2020. The German expressed his feelings about working with the legendary Spaniard after his second-round win over Brandon Nakashima on Day 3. Zverev says that he was blown away by how well organized Ferrer was.

It’s one of the main reasons that the pair have elected to switch from a trial to a full-time arrangement for the rest of the year.

“I mean, we worked for a few months now,” Zverev said. “It’s just somebody that I respected so much during the career and after the career, as well.

“We said that we’re going to have a trial period, and in that trial period he was so unbelievably well organized and the work has been incredible. I enjoyed the practices. I enjoyed the practices more than I did in the last few years. It was a no-brainer for me. I’m happy he’s joining the team, as well.”

Zverev, who will face France’s Adrian Mannarino in third-round action on Day 5, says that the public can expect to see the results of their hard work over the next few months. He also added that he is extremely excited to have the former Roland Garros finalist helping him when the clay-court season begins in Europe later this month.

Ferrer retired last year with 734 ATP victories and 27 ATP titles.

“Just in general, I mean, we worked on a lot of things,” he said. “I’m not going to say what we worked on because I’m still in the tournament, but I think it will show. It will show over the next few months.

“I’m excited to have him in Europe, as well, for the clay court season and we see from there. So far I think he’s enjoying it, I’m enjoying it, and he said the most important thing is to have fun with what you do. Once you have fun, you’re going to be better, anyways.”
