Manchester United are in prime position to sign Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon this summer, despite serious competition for his signature from across Europe.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Sevilla and enjoyed a thoroughly impressive campaign as he made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

He has returned to Real Madrid but manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly unconvinced by him and is happy to let him go this summer.

Tottenham, Juventus and Napoli have been linked with a move for him, as were Chelsea before they signed Ben Chilwell from Leicester CIty.

Sevilla are also keen to bring Reguilon back to Andalusia, but Manchester United are now at the front of the queue to sign the defender, according to Spanish publication AS.

The report states that United are ‘very interested’ in Reguilon and have even made an offer for the Spaniard.

Sevilla and the Red Devils are reportedly best placed to make a move for the full-back. but United are in a significantly better financial situation which gives them the advantage in the transfer race.

The Spain Under-21 international would cost around £25m with Real Madrid likely to put a buy-back clause in the contract.

Manchester United do have options at left-back, but Luke Shaw is notoriously injury-prone and 19-year-old Brandon Williams is not fully proven at the top level, despite being impressive in the first team last season.

With a return to Champions League football in the coming campaign, it is an area that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen after adding Donny van de Beek to his midfield options this week.

Reguilon is hoping to resolve his future this week, before he is due to report back to Real Madrid for pre-season after the international break.
