LA Dodgers News: Justin Turner Placed on 10-Day IL, Edwin Rios Activated

Today the Dodgers announced that third baseman Justin Turner has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. The move is retroactive to Saturday. In a corresponding move, the club activated infielder Edwin Rios from the 10-day IL.

Turner was hit on the hamstring early last week which led to bruising and on game missed, but the injury that landed him on the IL — described as a “low-grade strain” — happened while JT was trying to steal second base in Arlington. Notably, the red-head has missed time with hamstring issues twice before with the Dodgers, missing three weeks in 2014 and three weeks in 2017.

Rios had been out since August 16 after suffering a hamstring injury on his own in Anaheim. While it was originally believed that he would avoid the IL stint, instead the 26-year-old missed the next 13 games while rehabbing at the Dodgers’ alternate site at USC.

Turner, 35, has a triple-slash line of .282/.384/.410 with 9 extra-base hits and 20 runs batted in over 32 games this season. He’s in the final year of a 4-year deal with Los Angeles. In 14 games this season, Rios has slashed .276/.323/.690 with 6 extra-base hits and 6 runs batted in over 31 plate appearances.
