Dodgers Acquire RHP Kendall Williams in Trade for Ross Stripling

The Dodgers officially have one of the two pieces coming back to them in the deal for Ross Stripling. As part of the trade with Toronto, LA was to receive two players to be named later. Kendall Williams is the first part of the transaction.

Williams was ranked as the Blue Jays #13 prospect in their very deep organization. At 6-foot-6 and just 20-years-old, Williams is projected to keep picking up velocity on his fastball. He is also expected to develop a really good curveball, though he also possesses a slider in his repertoire. The Dodgers coaching staff will no doubt have him throwing an off-speed pitch with confidence in a matter of months.

Williams will immediately be slotted into the 60-man player pool and would presumably report to the USC campus. He will likely slot into the Dodgers list of top prospects as soon as that side of the deal is made official as well.

Williams threw in 16 innings during rookie ball in 2019, striking out 19 battes and issuing 7 walks. He had been previously praised by MLB scouts for his ability to command the zone and prevent free passes.

The Dodgers send Ross Stripling to Toronto/Buffalo right at the trade deadline on Monday afternoon. The move caught fans by surprise though, as the trade was not announced until well after the deadline had officially passed. He will likely get the chance to slot into the Blue Jays rotation as they try to make the playoffs this year.
