Jadon Sancho has told his Borussia Dortmund team-mates he is willing to wait another season before joining Manchester United if a move does not materialise in the coming weeks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Sancho, 20, as his first-choice target this summer and is desperate to welcome him to Old Trafford.

Earlier in the month, Dortmund warned Manchester United that Sancho would not be sold, but the Premier League club continue to monitor his situation and still believe a deal could be agreed.

Sancho has developed into one of the most exciting and talented players in the world since joining Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 and is valued at around £100million.

Despite the intense transfer speculation, Sancho’s Dortmund team-mates believe he will remain at the German club for at least one more season, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It is claimed that while Sancho is keen to return to the Premier League, he has informed his team-mates that he is willing to wait until next summer to move.

Following a short break following the end of the Bundesliga season, Sancho and the Dortmund squad returned to training last week, with the new campaign starting on September 18.

Despite Dortmund’s firm stance, Manchester United remain confident that the German club will consider an offer for Sancho this summer. However, whether they meet their £108m valuation remains to be seen.

Solskjaer is keen to bolster his squad at Old Trafford despite an impressive second-half to the 2019-20 season which saw Manchester United climb to third in the Premier League.

Despite Sancho’s talent and potential, Liverpool legends Graeme Souness and John Barnes have urged Man United to withdraw from the transfer race and spend in other areas.

Souness said: ‘It looks like United will have to spend the best part of £100million to get Sancho in this window and I’m not sure that’s their priority.

‘There are other places they need to strengthen because Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford can score in any company.’

Barnes added: ‘Manchester United have had more than enough firepower and attacking flair in the final third this season; they created loads of chances, won loads of penalties and scored lots of goals.

‘That is because of the ability they have going forward. They should be focusing more on bringing in more defensively midfield players.’
