Dodgers: Pedro Baez Hits the Injured List, Josh Sborz Recalled

The Dodgers will be without Pedro Baez for at least 10 days starting today. Baez was sent to the injured list with what is being described as a right groin strain. It has not been previously reported that Baez had been experiencing a groin issue.

Baez had the unfortunate experience of contracting COVID-19 prior to the start of the season. The positive test led to the Dodgers pitcher showing up a little bit late for Summer Camp and put him behind about a week. Baez was also experiencing a dip in velocity, with his fastball average down to just a little over 94mph.

In 11 games for the Dodgers, he has posted a 3.97 ERA  and eight strikeouts across 11.1 innings. He had also allowed 2 homeruns in his 11 appearances, possibly putting him on track for a career-high in that category. His 5.35 FIP also ranks as the worst mark of his career thus far.  Typically, pitchers with a mark above 5 are considered to be ‘awful’ per FanGraphs. Josh Sborz was called up in his place for extra help in the bullpen.

Up Next for the Dodgers

The Dodgers play one more game in Seattle tonight before heading back home. They will start a three-game series against the Rockies beginning on Friday night in Los Angeles. The Rockies currently sit second in the National League West with a record of 13 wins and 11 losses.
