Dean Henderson has confirmed his return to Manchester United after two years on loan with Sheffield United.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising goalkeepers in world football after two seasons with the Blades.

Henderson has already earned a call-up to the England squad and his performances have led to many suggesting that he should become United’s first choice next season, given the collapse in David De Gea’s form.

While it’s unclear if Henderson will remain at Old Trafford or go out on loan again, the goalkeeper has confirmed that he has returned to his parent club after opting against extending his stay at Bramall Lane.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at @sheffieldunited for the last two years,’ said Henderson.

‘Winning promotion to the Premier League with my brothers and having the season we had this season is something I will never forget.

‘I would like to thank the manager, my teammates, the backroom staff and of course, the fans, who have been unbelievable towards to me. I will look back at the last two years as an important chapter in my career and more than anything, i’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn and develop with such a class group of lads.

‘I can’t wait for the next chapter! Once again, thank you for everything! Once a blade, always a blade! ❤️🔜🔛🔝’.

Given his performances in the last two years, it’s unlikely that Henderson will be willing to play second fiddle to De Gea next season so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a difficult situation.

The Spaniard is United’s highest earner on £375,000-a-week, a deal which he signed just 12 months ago.

Few clubs in world football could afford De Gea and his form means he’s unlikely to have the suitors which he once had.

A host of clubs would be desperate to sign Henderson on loan, while Chelsea are interested in signing him on a permanent basis.
