Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must offload one of his midfielders before the club can complete a deal for Bayern Munich star Thiago.

The 29-year-old has informed the Bundesliga giants of his desire to leave the club and the Germans want to cash in on him this summer, given he has 12 months to run on his existing deal at the Allianz Arena.

Thiago has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and has spoken to Jurgen Klopp about a move to Anfield.

However, the Reds are unwilling to meet Bayern’s £27million asking price for the Spaniard without first raising funds through the sale of a player deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Klopp already has seven midfielders at his disposal and the Times claims he must sell one of those before the club would sanction a deal for Thiago.

Liverpool pulled out of a deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner earlier this summer due to the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Reds are taking a sensible approach to their summer transfer business and Klopp must vindicate every move in a way that he hasn’t been requested to do so before.

Any move for Thiago therefore hinges on Liverpool selling first and in any case, the Spaniard will not be able to leave Bayern before their Champions League campaign is over.

The Germans dismantled Barcelona in the quarter-finals and are favourites to reach the Lisbon final as they face Lyon in the semi-finals.
