Romelu Lukaku was full of praise of Manchester United trio Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial after Inter booked their place in the Europa League final.

United could have faced their former striker in the final had Sevilla not fought back to beat the Red Devils 2-1 on Sunday night.

Lukaku scored twice as Inter thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in their semi-final and the Belgian star was asked if it was disappointing United and not made it past Sevilla.

‘United tried their hardest,’ Lukaku said after the game. ‘I think they had a really good season.

‘I think Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) did a really good job. The players, they did really well.

‘Greenwood coming through, Martial and Rashford – I expected all of that. I’m really happy for them.

‘They look really good for next season, I have no doubt.’

Lukaku’s double against Shakhtar took the forward’s goal tally to 33 for his debut season with Inter.

United were happy to sell Lukaku and Inter also houses former Red Devils Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez.

Lukaku is setting records at his new club, but the 27-year-old insisted all he cared about was beating Sevilla in the final.

‘At the minute everything is going well but we keep fighting,’ he said. ‘Records are there to be broken but we want to win.

‘We need to prepare ourselves really well, recover and play again.’

‘The team is doing well and everybody is doing their best,’ he continued.

‘We worked really hard in the camp. It’s tough but you see the results of the hard work. We want to keep going.

‘We knew they were really good in combinations so as long as we kept the centre of defence close, we knew we would not have problems as the physicality of us is too much for them.’
