Kylian Mbappe has started on the bench for Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League quarter-final against Atalanta on Wednesday evening.

The 21-year-old has been battling to be fit for the game after he suffered an ankle injury in PSG’s win against Saint-Etienne in the Coupe de France final on July 24.

Mbappe trained with his teammates before their clash against Atalanta in Lisbon but he was not fit enough to start the game.

‘We are very happy that Kylian is also with the group and that we can have the opportunity to finish the match with him, because the two like to play together,’ PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said before the game.

‘Neymar is decisive in big matches and I am convinced that he can be the key man for us. He has the quality necessary for this kind of situation.’

Instead, Neymar and Mauro Icardi were selected to spearhead PSG’s attack against Atalanta.

If PSG beat Atalanta, they will face either RB Leipzig or Atletico Madrid in the semi-final on August 19.
