Manchester United have made a fresh enquiry for Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati but the Catalan club do not want to sell and are working on increasing his release clause, according to reports in Spain.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a new winger one of his top priorities this summer and had hoped to secure a deal for Jadon Sancho, though Borussia Dortmund played hardball over a fee and now say he will not be leaving this summer.

That has seen United begin to explore other options, with Spanish newspaper Sport reporting that they have ‘asked again’ about the possibility of signing Barcelona teenager Fati.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a promising breakout campaign this season, scoring seven times in 24 La Liga appearances as well as netting in the Champions League.

United have been keeping tabs on the youngster for some time, with Jorge Mendes reportedly proposing a mammoth deal on the club’s behalf earlier this summer.

The super-agent is believed to have tabled a £90million offer from United, less than the £108m Dortmund want for Sancho, though Barca insisted he was not for sale and would only leave if his £150m release clause was met.

According to Sport’s latest report, United have not been deterred and would end up spending significantly less on Fati even if they paid his buyout clause in full due to his lower wage demands and the lesser agents’ fees involved.

But Barca are still adamant they will resist United’s renewed interest and will move quickly to tie down Fati’s future.

They had initially been prepared to wait until October 31, when he turns 18, which will see his buyout clause automatically increase by over double to £357m.

But they will now fast-track that increase and trigger a unilateral contract extension which drastically increases his release clause, having previously wanted to hold off from doing so as it will bump up his wages and increase the mass salary of the squad.

Fati is happy at Camp Nou and a move to United would only transpire if he forces a departure, something which he is not prepared to do despite having been disappointed not to play against Napoli in the Champions League last time out.
