Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested Paul Pogba could sign a new long-term contract at Manchester United by stating the best is yet to come for the Frenchman at the club.

Pogba’s current deal expires in 2021 but United have the option of extending that by a further 12 months, which they’ll do in January 2021 if the midfielder fails to sign an extension.

The club’s preferenace though is tying Pogba down to a new long-term deal and he’s open to doing so.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for Pogba, who has twice requested to leave the club in the last three years.

However, the offers for Pogba have dried up post-pandemic and the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, along with an upturn in performances at Old Trafford, has convinced the former Juventus man that he can achieve his goals at the club.

‘What Paul said, was said before. Since coming back from injury has been a delight,’ said Solskjaer.

‘He has worked really hard, he is happy and he is playing well. We are going to see the best of Paul in the next couple of seasons, I’m sure.

‘And I’m looking forward to seeing him grow with this team. He will have to be one of the leaders, one of the main figures, because he is just coming to his peak time as a footballer at 27’.

United jetted out to Cologne today ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Copenhagen.

Pogba is expected to start against the Danes and Solskjaer spoke again about the Frenchman in his pre-match press conference, stressing his desire for the midfielder to get his hands on another trophy at the club.

‘I’ve answered numerous questions on Paul [Pogba] and we’re delighted he’s back playing, he’s fit, he’s enjoying his football, he’s got to make up for lost time and he’s doing that,’ said Solskjaer.

‘He’s [Pogba] training extra, always a great personality around the place and hopefully we can see him lift this trophy as he has done before’.
