Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has once again urged his former club to wrap up a deal for Jadon Sancho and dismissed concerns that he will disrupt the Red Devils’ free-scoring front three.

United have been chasing Sancho throughout the summer though failed to meet Borussia Dortmund’s deadline of Monday to agree a transfer fee, with the two sides at odds over the structure of the deal.

After a brief trip back to London over the weekend, Sancho returned to Dortmund in time to jet out to Switzerland with the rest of the squad for BVB’s pre-season training camp.

With United struggling to agree a fee, some notable pundits have suggested they should be redirecting their efforts elsewhere – with Paul Scholes feeling the side miss an out-and-out striker more like Harry Kane.

There are also question marks over how much United need Sancho given they already have a prolific front three of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and youngster Mason Greenwood, who all ended the season in fine form.

But Ferdinand is adamant that United need to sign the Dortmund star and dismissed suggestions that his old club already have enough attacking options and should prioritise other areas.

Asked who he would like to see United sign this summer on BT Sport’s Club 2020 Daily show, Ferdinand said: ‘I think it’s the same player on everyone’s lips: Jadon Sancho. A bit of flair.’

When it was argued that United already have a host of options in that position, Ferdinand responded bluntly: ‘I don’t care!

‘You can’t ever have enough of them.

‘Man United back in the day, you always remember four strikers battling it out to play their role at any given part of the season. You need that.’

Dortmund are believed to be holding out for a fee of around £108million for Sancho, a price tag United would be prepared to go to in normal circumstances but is harder to achieve now due to the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis.

The German side are believed to be asking for a larger up front fee than United have offered so far, while they are also discussing add-ons.

Sancho enjoyed another superb campaign in the Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals and laying on 16 assists in 32 appearances, but he is eager to return to England and showcase his talent in the Premier League.
