Liverpool are in advanced talks with Olympiakos left-back Kostas Tsimikas as they close in on a £13m deal for the Greece international.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to add another left-back to his squad to act as an understudy for Andrew Robertson and add the option to rotate the Scotland captain more regularly.

The Reds had been linked with a move for Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis, but their offers were rebuffed so they have turned their attention to the Olympiakos man.

The Athletic report that negotiations have reached an advanced point and the £13m move is close to completion.

The 24-year-old has been at Olympiakos since 2015 and has spent time on loan in Denmark with Esbjerg and Netherlands with Willem II before cementing a place in the first team with the Greek side.

Tsimikas started 13 league games last season and 27 this campaign, while he has also racked up plenty of European experience, playing 12 Champions League and four Europa League matches this season.

He has played plenty of English opposition this season, with Olympiakos taking on Tottenham twice in the Champions League group stage, knocking Arsenal out of the Europa League in the last 32 and then being beaten by Wolves in the last 16.

The full-back has picked up three caps for his country, making his debut in 2018.

Leicester were also linked with the Greek defender, enquiring about a move for him as they expect Ben Chilwell to move on amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, it looks like the Premier League champions are set to win the race for his signature.
