Jadon Sancho’s former coach believes a transfer to Manchester United would be a ‘great move’ for the Borussia Dortmund star, with the club ‘structurally set up for success.’

The 20-year-old has been linked with a return to England for months and Manchester United are now leading the race for his signature, with Liverpool and Manchester City seemingly falling by the wayside.

Negotiations are proving extremely difficult for the England international, with Dortmund wanting £100m for his services and the Red Devils trying to haggle down the price.

However, a deal does seem inevitable and Louis Lancaster, who worked with Sancho in the youth ranks at Watford, feels United as a club and their current team are perfectly set-up for the winger to excel.

‘I think Man United will be a great move for him,’ Lancaster told the South China Morning Post. ‘The club have got a tremendous history, the club are hugely ambitious but most importantly they are structurally set up for success, off the pitch and on the pitch.

‘If Jadon goes to Man United, on a bigger scale they’re going to control the ball. He’s got [Marcus] Rashford, [Paul] Pogba, [Anthony] Martial, [Bruno] Fernandes, [Harry] Maguire who can play out.

‘So they’re going to hopefully have more ball which is where he can add value to the team.’

Lancaster thinks extremely highly of his former charge, believing that, whether he moves to Old Trafford or not, Sancho is destined to win the greatest individual prize in the game.

‘I think we are definitely looking at a future Ballon d’Or winner – 100 per cent,’ he said.

Dortmund looked to pour cold water on any potential deal earlier this week, claiming that there has been absolutley no contact between Manchester United and the Bundesliga outfit regarding Sancho.

‘So far, there has been no contact between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United in terms of Sancho,’ Dortmund Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzk told Suddeutsche Zeitung.

‘Also not indirectly or through alleged intermediaries.’

Dortmund are still hoping the winger will be with them next season and are fighting hard to keep hold of him.
