Former Germany captain Michael Ballack says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp managing the German national team would form the ‘perfect connection’.

The 53-year-old guided the Reds to their first league title in over 30 years, adding to his side’s Champions League triumph last season.

Klopp also enjoyed a stellar record in his former post at Borussia Dortmund, overthrowing giants Bayern Munich to win consecutive Bundesliga titles.

The coach’s stock has risen dramatically over his time at Anfield, leading many to question where his next move may be.

Klopp remains coy on the matter, insisting after the Premier League title win that despite not wanting to sign a lifetime contract, he will remain at the Merseyside club ‘for a while’.

Ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich midfielder Ballack believes Klopp eventually succeeding Joachim Low as Germany’s head coach would be ‘perfect’.

He told Sportbuzzer: ‘Why shouldn’t one of the best coaches in the world be a candidate for the national coaching post?

‘The question is not whether he has the qualities for it, but whether Klopp would even like to become a national coach.

‘He is in a position where he can choose anything. Should he ever have enough as a club coach, the position of national coach would be a great story for him and German football. This connection would be perfect.’

Ballack has been taken aback by Klopp’s work at Anfield and puts him up there with the best coaches in world football.

‘It is impressive how Jurgen established Liverpool at the top, then led them to the Champions League triumph and now to the championship title,’ he added.

‘He breathed the new spirit into Reds, embodies the club, and is a brutal worker who gets the most out of his players.

‘He is an absolutely exceptional trainer. For me he is one of the three best coaches in the world.’
