Matthias Ginter has rubbished rumours that he could be set for a move to Chelsea and declared that he’s ‘definitely staying’ at Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.

The 26-year-old centre-back, who won a World Cup winners’ medal with Germany back in 2014, impressed at the heart of Gladbach’s defence this season and won plenty of admirers with his performances in the Bundesliga.

Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with Ginter ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and the Germany international admits he’s been ‘flattered’ by the recent speculation.

But Ginter has no plans to switch club anytime soon and it’s clear where he sees his future.

‘I’m definitely staying in Gladbach,’ Ginter told German publication Kicker when asked about the rumours.

‘Of course I heard of the enquiries and was flattered by this attention.

‘But I’ve said often enough how good things are for me in Gladbach.’

Ginter added: ‘The current team has great potential and the coach has brought a huge added value for us.

‘The club is in the process of building something with the great fans and the environment.

‘I also have big goals with the club and of course I’m still tied into a contract.’

Ginter’s current contract is due to expire in 2021 but Gladbach have an option to extend his deal by 12 more months.

However, Gladbach are hopeful that the centre-half will commit his long-term future to the club with a lengthier contract.

‘I can imagine that but there is no hurry,’ he said regarding a new long-term deal.

‘Discussions have yet taken place on this topic due to the coronavirus pandemic.’
