Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is in line for his first team debut in the Red Devils’ Europa League clash against LASK on Wednesday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have a 5-0 aggregate lead going into the second leg at the Theatre of Dreams and the Norwegian is expected to make a host of changes in order to give further rest to first team stars like Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial.

The new format to the Europa League means United are just three matches away from the final and the competition will be decided in under a fortnight’s time, meaning Solskjaer will likely need to rotate to get his hands on a first piece of silverware this term.

Mengi was promoted into United’s first team training after lockdown due to a centre-back shortage. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are both out with medium-term injuries, meaning Solskjaer was left with just Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Mengi, 18, has shown immense promise in United’s academy and though he was called up into the squad to face Astana earlier in the competition, he was an unused substitute in Kazakhstan.

The teenager is unlikely to be the only fresh face as James Garner, Tahith Chong and Ethan Laird have all been training with the first team and the trio could play a part as United look to book their place in the quarter-finals.

United will face either Copenhagen or Istanbul Başakşehir in the last-8, before a potential tie against Premier League rivals Wolves in the semi-finals, who have to overcome Olympiacos and one of Roma and Sevilla to get to the last four.
