Add Canadian heavyweight Tanner Boser to the list of hot prospects getting as many quick turnarounds as they desire during this topsy turvy Coronavirus time.
Boser’s 2020 has already included a June 27th KO win over Philipe Lins and then a TKO win over Raphael Pessoa one month later on July 26th in Abu Dhabi. Now the the UFC has signed him for his third fight of the year and he’s getting a big step up in competition: he’ll take on former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski on October 3rd.
TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter confirmed the booking, which just happened to come together and get signed on Boser’s 29th birthday. Happy birthday, “Bulldoser!” Andrei Arlovski is just a bit older at 41 years old, making this a good old fashioned new guard vs. old guard battle. Arlovski also has quite the edge in experience, with 50 fights under his belt (29-19-2 MMA, 18-13-1 UFC). Boser is no inexperienced slouch either, though, at 19-6-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC.
Andrei Arlovski is a legend in the sport but has hit a point where it’s near impossible to ignore that his best days are behind him. Over the past five years he’s gone 5-9-1 in the UFC with a whole slew of ugly (and let’s just say it, boring) performances. Where the “Pitbull” of old was known as a knockout artist with exceptional hands, the last KO Arlovski bagged was a May 2015 KO of Travis Browne.
On the other side of the bout equation, Tanner Boser started off slow in the UFC splitting a pair of decisions before seemingly finding his rhythm in the promotion with a pair of impressive finishes. He’ll have a chance to show whether he can channel that KO power against top shelf opponents come October against the veteran Arlovski.
