Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho has been given a boost after Dortmund indicated their willingness to agree to the Red Devils’ plans of paying for the winger in three instalments.

The Bundesliga giants are resigned to losing the 20-year-old this summer but they are refusing to compromise on their €120m (£108m) asking price.

United had been confident of signing Sancho before the pandemic hit and the club were warming to the idea of paying Dortmund’s asking price in order to sign the England international as soon as the transfer window opened.

However, the pandemic’s effect on club finances has been widespread and United felt that should be taken into account in negotiations.

But, with Dortmund unwilling to compromise, United are exploring other ways of meeting the demands and they have suggested paying the fee in three large instalments.

The first would be the largest instalment of around €70m (£63m) before a further two instalments in years to come worth €30m (£27m) and €20m (£18m), according to Bild.

While this route is regularly used when it comes to large transfers, Dortmund had been keen on receiving the fee in one lump sum, meaning they have now softened their stance.

It’s reported that the idea has ‘picked up speed’ from United’s corner in recent days and that Dortmund would be willing to accept the plan, as it would mean they receive their asking price for the winger.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to have Sancho in place at least three weeks before United kick off their Premier League campaign in mid-September.

The official start date of United’s campaign is still unclear as it could be pushed back if United get through to the latter stages of the Europa League.
