One of the biggest trilogy fights in UFC history will go down next month at UFC 252 on Aug. 15 live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, as current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic meets Daniel Cormier for a third and very final time.
While we are just two weeks away from the heavyweight showdown fight fans didn’t know for sure if the trilogy bout would actually take place. Cormier’s retirement plans, Miocic’s recovery from an eye injury, and the unexpected COVID-19 outbreak collectively cast a shadow on the ultimate grudge match.
Luckily, “DC” is sticking around for one more fight, Miocic is all healed up, and the promotion has found a way to host events during a global pandemic. The past few months have been hard for fight fans but it seems as if the stars aligned for this matchup.
In preparation for the trilogy bout, UFC has released the first meeting between Cormier and Miocic, which can be seen in the above player. The bout took place at UFC 226 back in 2018 and saw Cormier, the UFC light heavyweight champion at the time, move up in weight and challenge Miocic to become a double champ. To the surprise of many, “DC” ended up stopping Miocic via first-round knockout to claim his second UFC belt.
All fight fans can do now is cross their fingers and hope this trilogy fight actually takes place in two weeks at UFC 252.
Should everything come together the way it’s supposed to, who do you have winning the trilogy bout between Miocic and Cormier?
